Singapore>  Other Institutions>  Singapore Sports School

Singapore Sports School was opened in January 2004 for pupils aged 12-16 with a mission to ‘groom Singapore’s future sporting champions.’ The school promotes itself heavily and there is fierce competition for the 100 places available each year, a stark contrast to other Singaporean schools where the intake is significantly higher. As a result of this selection criteria is stringent and aspiring candidates are put through a series of pre-medical screenings, sports science assessments, interviews to assess mental strength and technical / tactical assessments to evaluate potential and skills.

The school’s logo is comprised of a pair of wings, the universal symbol of flight, which symbolises the soaring aspirations of the students.

Their symmetry symbolises the balance between academic finesse and sporting excellence, with the red signifying passion and pride and the orange representing youthfulness and vigour.

Students live in the ‘Champions’ Village,’ the school’s boarding accommodation, which includes a block specially adapted for physically disabled students. Despite Singapore’s relatively low crime rates, the blocks are patrolled by security guards and access is by electronic key cards only.
