Ministry of Education
The Ministry of Education’s aim is to, ‘Mould the future of our
nation by moulding the people who will determine the future of our
nation.’ Their vision, ‘Thinking Schools – Learning Nation’ was created
to support Singapore becoming a nation of thinking, committed citizens,
capable of contributing towards the country’s continued growth and
prosperity.
As an organisation, MoE is responsible for shaping Singapore’s
curriculum, leading on new initiatives and overseeing schools’
performance. MoE produced the desired outcomes for education, are
responsible for school funding and manage school examinations. All
teacher recruitment is also dealt with centrally through MoE, with
teachers being sent to identified schools, as opposed to applying
directly to the school itself.

Elements of the ‘Every Child Matters’ agenda are reflected through the
Ministry’s belief that education is holistic and should be about the
whole child. This approach however, is adopted to varying degrees in
schools where there is considerable pressure to perform well
academically.
