Examples of our work from previous visits:

The International Programme for Headteachers (IPH)

The International Placements for Headteachers (IPH) programme offers an opportunity for school leaders to reflect upon leadership in an international context and investigate a particular theme of interest to support school and leadership development.

Visit the NCSL Website to see what IPH is all about.

Examples of our work:

Comenius School Partnership Programme

As part of the partner-finding process for the Comenius School Partnership programme, we provide funded opportunities for school staff to attend Contact Seminars. Contact Seminars are events organised by different European National Agencies throughout the year on relevant educational and curriculum themes. These seminars bring together interested organisations from various countries participating in the Comenius Programme. Offering presentations by thematic experts, workshops to discuss chosen topics and social activities to help you get to know your colleagues in Europe – seminars provide the time, space and environment to develop new project ideas.

If you are interested in finding out more about the Comenius Programme please visit our website www.britishcouncil.org/comenius  to discover the full range of opportunities we have on offer. More specifically, a list of current Contact Seminars for 2008, including short descriptions on the featured theme is available on the events section of our website

  Extending the International Learning
  programme through:

The International Learning programme in South Gloucestershire is expanding rapidly due to developing partnerships with several national bodies e.g. The British Council, LECT, Specialist Schools Trust, Best Practice Network and the NCSL.  The central 'driving force' is the Teachers' International Professional Development Programme (TIPD).  Study Visits (Strand 1) have already been undertaken to Denmark, Ghana, Toronto, Phoenix, Poland, Shanghai and Denver.  The International Leadership Programme has seen ten South Gloucestershire (cross-phase) Headteachers visit Melbourne Australia in June 2003, one Headteacher visit Montreal and four Headteachers visit New Zealand.  An International Leadership research and enquiry group and a Best Practice Forum have been established.

Commonwealth Exchange Programme

An exchange gives participants the opportunity to exchange teaching positions and homes with a colleague from Australia, Canada or New Zealand.  Exchanges can be for any period between one term and a full year, although most placements are for a year. Exchanges to Canada take place from September to August, whilst exchanges to Australia and New Zealand normally run from January to December.
